Daily Post April 14- April 17

April 14:
I had to fill out some IMS Sheets for 35 cases. It is where I fill out what the Charging Party is filing about and what issues were involved. After that I had to put some papers in the right case folders. There were many cases and I was tired after 3 hours. Then I had to write 2 summaries of 2 cases I was given.

April 15: I did some filing for some cases. Filing is when you put some papers in their respective places. It was hard becauss there were so many folders and I had to match the paper Case numbers with Folder case numbers. After, I worked on some cases, I analysed 3 cases. I wrote a summary of these 3 cases, explaining what they were about.

April 16: As I went to my site. I was given some folders to put in order. Every case has a case number (i.e: 520 (officed number)-2008 ( year) - XXXXX) I had to put the last 4 digits in order. For example: 001123 would go after 001022. It took alot of time. And after i was done with that, I did some copying as a side job.

Midpoint Reflection Questions

How has the internship been the same as and/or different than your expectations?

Well, i thought the internship was going to be very hard and i wont get the material that will be taught to me. But I was wrong It is very fun and intersting and also educating.

What is similar and different about the culture of the school environment versus the workplace environment? What new skills have you learned that apply to the workplace?

The school and my workplace have similarities. They both teach us material to advance in our lives(educational). In my work place, I learned how to communicate better with people. My communication levels have been improved on. The school has work but it does not involve knowledge, you will eventually learn it easily, however my workplace involves knowledge, precession and smartness.

What kind of relationship do you have with your mentor and co-workers? How have you grown as a result of interacting with professional adults?

My mentor Ms.Particia looks after me as if I were her son. She helps me get through difficult times. She also pates me on my back to show her appriciation. My Co-workers picture me as their pal, friend, and/or brother and sister. They like me so much. I believe that I am being welcomed their (my workplace).

What challenges at the internship have you faced that you have overcome and how did you overcome them?

I faced many challenges during my time at EEOC so far. At first, i had hard time understanding some of the EEOC words (for example "EEOC"). But as time passed, I went on Dictionary.com and got the definations. I had to do some filing and did not understand how, so I asked my mentor for help. She did all the work as i watched. But later I learned how to do it myself.

What challenges have you faced in school as a result of the altered schedule and how are you handling them?

I believe shool is interfearing with my work at EEOC. If you ask me, there should be only one thing (school or internship). they are competing with each other and thats the reason why many students are failing this semester. I get alot of homework so I have to take away my personal time for homework. I get home at 6:00pm and sleep at 11:00pm and not to mention I wake up at 6:00Am.

What goals are you working to accomplish during the remainder of the internship?

Some of my goals that I am planning to accomplish include; Passing my internship (with highest grade I can get). I wnt to be able to understand the advanced concepts of EEOC. This will help me become a professional. I want to be able to make it without any help from my people.

What new things have you learned about New York City?

I learned that New York City is full of oppertunaties and jobs. And if you really try hard, you can become a ultimate "player in the game". new York is the best place to get jobs and start a family.

Daily Posts March 31- April 3

March 31: It was a usual day at my internship. I was given papers to copy for one of my unit workers ( I am in unit 3 which includes 5 people, Sean, John, Rosemary, Patricia, and another lady). I made 2 copies for every orginal. The orginals were divided in groups (meaning stapled or pinned together). I was not allowed to mix them up because every copy goes to a lawyer.

April 1: I had to do some filing for the cases. Every case has a charge number (Starts with the office number 520-(year)- and 4 other numbers). I looked at the papers and put them in the right folders by looking at the case numbers. It was hard at first but I was quick to adopt. I filed 46 cases in their propestive positions.

April 2: This day was fun because I had to make a case folder. I had to put papers into the folders by case numbers. i made 10 cases. After one of my unit member gave me a pile of cases (51 folders) and told me to see If they contain 5 copies and a orignal. Many of them contained 4 copies and 1 original so I had to unstaple those so i could make another copy. I had to unstaple 36 in which there were only 4 copies and 1 original. It was not fun at all, believe me.
