Interview Questions (Mr Andrew)

1. What is your full name?

Andrew Justin Schulz

2. Where are you from?

Mount Morris, Michigan. Just north of Flint, Michigan.

3. Where did you go to college? For how long? Do you plan to go back to school?

I went to Michigan State University for my undergraduate degree for 5 years. Later, I went to the University of Michigan for a year to earn a graduate degree. I have no plans to return to college for another degree.

4. (If the interviewee went to college)…What was your major in college and what kind of degree do you earn?

Music Education for both--Bachelor of Music and Master of Music.

5. Why did you choose that field?

Music is a powerful force in the world, and I wanted to be part of it somehow. I thought I would be a professional musician at first, but I was told to get an education degree because it would be easier to fall back on to get a job.

6. What got you involved in this field of work? What inspired you to do it?

I had an inspiring music teacher that really enjoyed his career and life. Both of my parents were teachers at one point in their career, also.

7. Why did you choose this job?

This is my third teaching job. I chose it because I had considered moving overseas to teach in another country, but this school was offering the chance to teach students from all over the world, which seemed like an even better experience. Plus it is located in New York City, which I find fascinating and awe-inspiring.

8. How long have you worked here?

This is my second year here, seventh year as a teacher.

9. What is your job title?

Music Teacher

10. What do your duties include? Or What kinds of work does your job involve?

I teach students music fundamentals, history, and analysis. I sing and play instruments with the students and teach them how to use computer software to create music. I put on performances/concerts as well.

11. What are some of the challenges you have faced working here?

The varying level of English and academic ability is a constant struggle. I also am discouraged by unmotivated and undisciplined students, which at times there seems to be many of.

12. What is the best part of your job?

July and August…just kidding. Though the many breaks are nice – it gives me more time to be with my baby girl. The best part is being a part of students enjoying making music and being in school. Also, meeting many diverse, interesting, funny, and clever young individuals.

Daily Post Synthesis #1

OLD: I was given 30 cases to work with. I had to fill out the IMS sheet for all 15 cases. After I completed that, I did some filing for some folders. The filing was easy, I had to put the folders in order by their charge number. After i did some analysis for 2 cases (Summary of what the case is about)

OLD: I also did make several folders for cases. I stapled the Routing Sheet on the front of the folder. I stapled Attorneys letter inside. I had to make sure there were 5 copies and 1 original inside the folders. After I was done, I had to fill out the IMS Sheet for the folders I made.

NEW: I was given a case to work on. And my mentor said that she was going to send a copy to the Charging Party/ people who were requesting it. She told me to Redacte things like; Social Secruity number, Adressses, Phone Numbers, and anything personal of the people involved. So this was kind of a project for me, I am still working on it. I Had to take a sticky note, cover up the part where information that was not going to be distributed to either parties. After posting the sticky note, I had to make another copy of the Redacted paper that can be given to the people resquesting. I am still not done with it because there is soo many papers to be Redacted.

NEW: This day was different because I had to make a Filing system where the Charging Numbers had to be in a particular order. I started with 2006' Cases and put those in order by looking at their last 5 numbers (i.e 520-2006-01350 then 520-2006-01351....)
It was a long assignment but I finally got it done.

Daily Post April 14- April 17

April 14:
I had to fill out some IMS Sheets for 35 cases. It is where I fill out what the Charging Party is filing about and what issues were involved. After that I had to put some papers in the right case folders. There were many cases and I was tired after 3 hours. Then I had to write 2 summaries of 2 cases I was given.

April 15: I did some filing for some cases. Filing is when you put some papers in their respective places. It was hard becauss there were so many folders and I had to match the paper Case numbers with Folder case numbers. After, I worked on some cases, I analysed 3 cases. I wrote a summary of these 3 cases, explaining what they were about.

April 16: As I went to my site. I was given some folders to put in order. Every case has a case number (i.e: 520 (officed number)-2008 ( year) - XXXXX) I had to put the last 4 digits in order. For example: 001123 would go after 001022. It took alot of time. And after i was done with that, I did some copying as a side job.

April 17: My Day Off
