The End of the First Week of Internships

Cash M
Class K

**What is it?**

It is called Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). There is alot of work to do, we help people who were discriminated during their work by their mentors, co workers or customers.

**What kind of business is it and what kind of work do the professionals do there?**

There is alot of stuff happening in EEOC. The "Professionals" look at cases of the people who were discriminated during their jobs by their co workers, boss or customer. They only look at cases filed within 300 days, beyond that, they are terminated. Also the cases have to be filed against

**Where is it?**

This particular company has offices in almost all the states. But the one in New York is located at 33 Whitehall St, Manhattan.

**Tell a little about your mentor.**

My mentors name is Patricia and she is very sweet. She got this German accent which is very rare in my case. but you can get use to it.She helps me around when I am stuck on something or when I have a question. She is a hard working women. She is always running around trying to get her work around.

**What happened on the first day?**

On the first day i was 35 mins late. i was disciplined with a speech about the rules and regulations. And if i was to be late more than 5 mins, i would be send home. On this particular day, Patricia ( my mentor and supervisor) showed me around the place. i got to meet new experienced people who were smarter than me. It felt good to learn about the buisness

**What kinds of things have you done so far?**

I have done many things during my time at EEOC. At first, I had to practice something called a "Questionar", where we try to figure out what the person is being discriminated against. Now I am working on 3 cases in which i have to figure out if the cases should be filed ( the person should take it to the court) or do we need more evidence. I already dismissed a "dumb" case that didnt make any sense. I cannot share it with you because what I do in EEOC, stays in EEOC.

**What were some of the highlights of the first week? (Memorable moments, cool things...)**

Well after I was done training, I went into the break room, got some snakes and drinks and watched Tv. It was fun because my progress was going well. The people there are very kind and funny. I was signed into a Unit (unit 3)in which I work with 3 people. And sometimes we sit around and talk, share some funny cases and so on. It is a exciting experience.

**When do you leave school?**

I leave school at 11:45 to get there earlier but sometimes the L train doesnt come until 12:05.

**How long does it take you to get to your internship?**

It depends on how the L train progress. But it takes me 50 minutes to get to my site.

**When do you arrive at home?**

After I am released from my Internship, I reach home at 5:20. Its a painful ride home.

**What is your schedule? (What days do you work and for how long each day?)**

My schedule depends on what work I am doing at EEOC. Sometimes I have to go through charts (evidence) and take notes. At this point, I am released at 5:00 from my internship, so the next day i leave one hour earlier(3:00). But the regular schedule is from 1:00 TO 4:00, Monday through Friday.

**Who are the two people that can sign your time card? (Your mentor and the additional person)**

There are mre than 2 people that can sign my time card but the 2 particular ones are Patricia (my mentor) and Mr.Sean (my unit mentor).

At this point, do you have any other questions, comments, concerns, queries, or inquiries?

Nope.
